Le Lavandou was once a small fishing village and for a long time belonged to the municipality of Bormes-les-Mimosas. Since 1913, Le Lavandou has been an independent municipality and today it has about 6,000 inhabitants. The seaside resort town is located at the foot of the Massif des Maures, directly on the Mediterranean coast. Twelve sandy beaches stretch along the twelve kilometers of coastline from the Anglade district to the Pramousquier. In addition to the large beach in the city center, there are also small, romantic beach bays. Le Lavandou is the perfect place for water sports, whether above or below the water. In summer you can watch dolphins not far from the coast, and with some luck sometimes even whales.
Until today, fishing is very important. Every day, the fishermen of Lavandou, called "pescadous", return to the harbor early in the morning with their fresh catch in their pretty, traditional provencal fishing boats called "pointus". The fishing quay then has a unique, lively and colorful atmosphere that is always an experience. In the fish hall scorpion fish, conger eel, Saint-Pierre or Loup are offered, as well as a large selection of small stone fish, from which "Bouillabaisse", the famous provencal fish soup, is prepared.
